Consumer and Family Advisory Council (CFAC)
The CFAC strengthens the relationship between Consumers, Board of Directors and management at Independent Living Waterloo Region (ILWR).
Purpose
To improve consumer service experience and quality of life at ILWR. The CFAC will serve in an advisory capacity, making recommendations on topics that impact Consumers by bringing together individuals with a variety of skills and experiences to:
- Provide ideas and feedback on initiatives and programs that enhance and embrace the model of consumer-directed services and the Independent Living philosophy
- Work collaboratively and proactively to promote ILWR vision, mission, and values, and
- Help to inform consumer-centred principles and practices based on lived experience
- The CFAC will focus on topics that impact the majority of/ all consumers and redirect any individual consumer service needs or concerns to Program Supervisors. Consumers will be encouraged to use ILWR’s Consumer Complaints and Appeals process for individual service concerns.

Members represent the collective voice of ILWR Consumers, Board and management.

ILWR believes the consumer voice can include family members of Consumers who play an active and positive role in their lives.
Consumer and family members will include three (3) Assisted Living, three (3) Community Outreach, and two (2) Independent Living Resources (1 Direct Funding, 1 Community Resource Program). Membership will include participants from across Waterloo Region.
Board of Directors
A member of the Stakeholder Relations Committee of the ILWR Board of Directors.
ILWR Management and Staff
Members will include the Executive Director, Manager of Independent Living Resources and Senior Manager Attendant Services. The Executive Assistant will attend meetings to provide administrative support.
